Hi Carolina and team,
I have put your ideas in the planning page. I know some have very strong feelings about giving the marginalized some voice in this project so we may want to have multiple targets. What about the men who run the galleries… should we get them to the table? They make the decisions.
Pre-study… I totally agree regarding finding a way to make sure the audience collects the data. I was pretty aggressive collecting it and about 4% of our 80 attendees contributed and we agreed that we did not want too many emails going out to them. Let’s brainstorm incentive ideas towards this goal.
WCA is urging me to deliver the proposal and title soon. I would really to have you all discuss the audience, event model and title here right now.
Thanks for the f to F offer. I will be back in Minnesota on April 3. I would really appreciate it if we could do more of the work here and meet F to F at Carolina’s after I return. Thanks!!!

Subject: RE: Women and Money
Greetings Colleagues!
Great Work: NOW. Let’s identify the model we will use.
The Death of Feminism: Revelations of the Third Wave was a resounding success but I would like to recommend we build on that success. This may be a similar format or it may be an entirely different model. Do not think of current models- think about what you want to change. What you want the general public to hear about. Who impacts how women interact with money? What roadblocks are in place because of gender issues. Preaching to ourselves is nice and safe and feels very empowering but does it really change anything?
A few “in the day “ reflections (bear with me younger colleagues- I know you are sick to death of hearing what “was”) I have fought several good fights. My ex-husband was drafted and I ended up in Washington DC. I brought co-ed dorms to the University of Maine. I forced the University of Minnesota to publish my dissertation with color photographs (I was an art ed major for goodness sakes!) and I brought the first online teacher licensure program in the United States online for Bemidji State. This was not popular with my colleagues 15 years ago. The math department up there still calls me “that woman”. They will not say my name out loud ; /000.
SO….this is what I learned and I now share with you:
Those who are in power do NOT CARE that the disempowered do not like the status quo. If you want to effect change you MUST provide the proper incentive for the decision makers.
- You buy them (probably not an option for us)
- You woo them . May take work finding out what will be effective
- You apply social pressure in a way that the decision maker can appear the hero(ine). The shame and blame approach rarely bears the fruit we seek. This reality is hard for some people to process and it takes a certain maturity and ability to KEEP THE GOAL IN SIGHT!!
SO…my daughter, an author, once told me, “SO” is not a punctuation mark, you know that, right, mom?” As I am sure you have already noticed, I am much more interested in function than form.
SO: I have gathered all your Goals, Objectives and Outcomes on our planning page. I would like to invite you to identify WHO stands in the way of us reaching those goals and outcomes and considering HOW to get them to the table and WHAT will we do to move their thinking forward once we get them there.
Death Survey Trends to Consider:
1. They wanted more time. I would recommend we extend to three hours.
- They wanted more on my “NO ONE TRUTH” philosophy. It might be good for the civility for me to give them 10 minutes on that. The arrogance of thinking your truth is THE truth causes most human conflict. There are other “expert” panels planned- I would like to keep our event a dialogue.
- As Carolina knows… I wanted the Death event capped at 30. I flexed to 50 and we ended up with 80. Basically, I had to redesign the entire event in 5 minutes when we let the 30 walkins sit down. We did the right thing but I think we need to give some consideration to our goals and perhaps have this event invitation only. Just a thought.

Carolina,
Thanks for suggesting titles! They are all provocative. Excellent! I think that Karen Wilcox’s perfect title “Death of Feminism: Revelations from the Third Wave” really earned the attention of our community. We need to select our title with care. ALL: Please send more suggestions.
Tiffany,
I think I pulled out your main Goal and Outcome but I included an asterisk to refer to your entire statement. I am sure some of my words were hard for you to read. Please feel free to dialogue with me regarding your thoughts on effecting real social change.
Kristi,
Your contributions have been wonderful. So happy to have you on this committee!! I posted I WILL DISRUPT info on the WCA FaceBook. You should friend the site. I also put it on the WCA Members page (you should join WCA and you can post there, too!) and on Mimi’s List. Do you know about that?
Brenda,
I posted your EBay resource under factoid. Please send goals and outcome suggestions.
Ellen Angela,
As you can already see, you are asking the right questions, Ellen. I have a process to develop these “Dialogues for Change” http://bridgescreate.com/3826-2/ as I call them. I especially appreciated you asking “who will be at the table”. Key question. If we are sharing our outrage with each other- it changes nothing. Regarding your email and FaceBook questions. I have learned over the years (and did again on the Death of Feminism project) that people are not inclined to engage in these kinds of discussions on their FaceBook pages because they do not want to tangle their personal lives up with this kind of dialogue. It is also just one more place for people to go.
The use of this email list for the planning committee is the most time effectual strategy and is a manageable time commitment for me. The reason I organize a project on my website is also because of time management. Death had 60 registered participants and over 40 resource bank submissions. This gives all the stakeholders to review hard data before we meet. The dialogue is WAY more effective when we DO meet. Again….I probably had 70 hours in the Death of Feminism event. I do not have any more time to give. As you can see on the site. We have a complete record of the event- including plans going forward. http://bridgescreate.com/the-death-of-feminism-revelations-of-the-third-wave/ Please feel free to ask for clarification if this does not answer your concerns.
Phfew! I am off to my Spanish lesson: Hasta Luego. http://bridgescreate.com/blog/
I await your insight!!!
Barbara

Hello Committee,
We need to move forward and create our event plan and identify a name. That should happen this week. Please post by Friday with any ideas you have. If we do not hear… we will conclude that you are no longer interested in working on this project. Deadlines are our masters!
Example of proposal for Women and Money: http://bridgescreate.com/proposal/
Again… let’s use what we learned. Please post TWO goals and TWO hoped for outcomes.
From Kristi:
Women make up only 4% of leaders in the C-suite yet 51% of the workforce. Women wait until 100% ready to apply for job, start a business, or even kick a soccer ball while men go at 50%. Confidence peaks at 9 for girls. Bust these stats by attending the IWD2016: I Will Disrupt mini-con. Hear from a panel of disruptors + engage in discussion and workshopping around Disrupting the WorkPlace and Disrupting BodyImage + be inspired to disrupt “it’s always been this way” in your own style. Learn more and sign up for the March 6th event here!

Hi Team, Feb 15
I have just reviewed the documents Tiffany sent – well the executive summary, anyway!! There is some very compelling data.
Several issues I had not really thought about:
- Because of low marriage and high divorce rates… their access to pension benefits is very low.
- Incarceration rates. I recently read a book called the New Jim Crow which made a very compelling case for the War on Drugs being the New Jim Crow.
- The Stand Your Ground data made me weep.
Let’s talk about how this data could relate to our discussion model for Women and Money? We need start thinking about how we want to design our event.
Data from the last event:
We had a cap at 50 but I would have preferred 30. Eighty people showed up and I could not bear to send them away but most of our negative feedback focused on too many people.
Frustrating and evidence that no matter which way we went- we could not please all the people.
SO… let’s REALLY think about WHO we want at the discussion for maximum effect. Preaching to each other changes nothing. Having one or two “experts” stand up an tell us their one worldview rarely changes much (from my experience). Let’s design something NEW!!
The leaders are waiting for us to send them the design and the name of our event. We need to hear from everyone regarding their reflections on the data and their ideas for our discussion design.
Brenda, Noreen and Terri… I hope to hear your voices soon.
