Welcome to BridgesCreate.com
Barbara Bridges seeks to empower all people to embrace the creative process. She makes art from rescued power objects and artist fabricated components in a variety of media. She organizes the objects to create meaning and to provoke discussions and reflection on a wide variety of social topics. These include: Ode to Gluten (agricultural practices); Onion/Academia Nuts, (HiTech/HiTouch in academia); Found In Our Water (water quality); and Talking Chairs (recovery/worldview truths). She engineers rescued objects to create beautiful and functional art works, which is profoundly satisfying to her on a visceral level. Her commitment to living a considered life and returning objects to circulation - and not to a landfill - is an important objective in her work.
Barbara is available to work with your school or community to develop meaningful programs/projects.
Ode To Gluten

Ode To Gluten

The Twin Cities has a rich, collective history as the source of wheat for our nation – and beyond. But, the golden grain is fast becoming a pariah of the four basic food groups. Ode to Gluten is a large sculptural work created to celebrate wheat’s history and to engage viewers in a dialogue about wheat:- its past, present and future role in the American diet, as well as in shaping the political, economic and social development of our city, state and country.   Read More on Appearances.

Found In Our Water

Our concern for the quality of our water should be an international dialogue. I seek collaborators to stage panel discussions, exhibitions with local artists, student workshops, school visits and adult events around the planet.
