I always find it insightful to view the photographs visitors take. It is a little peek into their personalities. Pat, a gifted photographer, captured color and patterns. I absolutely resonate with this focus. In my doctoral research, I looked for visual commonalities across cultures. How do different peoples, at different times, create visual representation -sometimes called art- sometimes not. The only common theme across ALL cultures was the use of patterns. I had an anthropologist on my dissertation committee and she was intrigued with my quest. I suggested the attraction our species has to patterns is based in our wish to believe we have control over our lives. We want to think we know what is coming up next. Patterns meet that need.
