Cottage Retreat Rental

SP Sunset 5 x 7

News! I have sold Chateau Mer but I want to assure you that you should hardly notice this change.  I am leaving most of the furnishings and my crew will continue on with the new buyers so you will still find most of the fun, creative and whimsical ambiance which may have attracted you to the cottage in the first place. I have chosen my buyers with great care and they will be adding new opportunities to enjoy Chateau Mer.  Shankari Shapiro will be adding yoga and wellness retreat opportunities at the cottage www.anandashantiyoga.com

Description
My Sandy Point property has 267 feet of private sand beach and 2.1 acres of land. The big cottage has a warm, welcoming ambience and the capacity to sleep 23 in beds with six bedrooms, a den, and loft. There are 2.5 baths. The cottage has radiant-heated tile floors, spectacular ocean views through glass walls, two decks facing the ocean and 50mg high-speed internet. Available fully-furnished, if desired. http://bridgescreate.com/chateau-mer-rental

Only 2% of the Maine coast is sandy. You can camp on my beach or simply relax in a delightful, screened beach shack and enjoy the fire pit.  Odem’s Ledge, with 50 harbor seals, is within sight of the cottage, and we had a deep-water mooring for our Friendship sloop.

I have also added The Nest, which is a wonderful, seasonal owner’s apartment with kitchen, bath, heat and an ocean view deck and a two-person hot tub. http://bridgescreate.com/artists-garrett-the-nest-sleeps-two/

The property also has two artist’s studios–one under the Nest apartment with its own deck and one in the cottage (each with an ocean view!).

My acre across the street is a wild flower, lupine field with a grape arbor terrace where several weddings have been staged. http://bridgescreate.com/brees-field-wildflowergrape-arborfruit/.  The field also has a bearing apple and peach tree (5 bushels this year), high bush blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, herbs and a small vegetable garden.

Hiking-Great-Pond-Mtn.-225x300Hike up Great Pond Mountain and visit Craig Pond Fish Hatchery

My first trip to Great Pond was with my daughter’s nursery school class. YES!  This is a kid friendly hike of about an hour which brings you above the tree line and delivers spectacular views. Not developed. Kind of a local secret…someone has to show you the trailhead!!

If you stand on the Chateau Mer deck and look across the bay to the mainland, you will see Great Pond Mountain to the left. If you can see Great Pond, that means when you are on the top of Great Pond, you can see …well… the entire Penobscot Bay area!

After we leave Great Pond we will drive about ¼ of a mile to the Craig Brook National Fish Hatchery where we will leave you in the knowledgable hands of the Fishery staff.   You may also want to stay and have a picnic lunch. Gay Dion, at the Good Kettle, would be delighted to pack those for you and deliver them to the cottage before you leave!  https://thegoodkettle.wordpress.com
Craig Brook National Fish Hatchery was established in 1889 to raise and stock juvenile Atlantic salmon for Maine waters. Craig Brook currently supports seven river specific brood stocks of Atlantic salmon.

The Species is Protected Wild and hatchery reared Atlantic salmon in eight of Maine’s smaller rivers were listed as endangered under the protection of the Endangered Species Act in December 2000. In July 2009 Atlantic salmon populations of the Penobscot, Kennebec and Androscoggin rivers were added for protection, along with a designation of critical habitat for the entire geographic range of wild salmon in Maine.

There are numerous visitor opportunities at Craig Brook including:

  • Boat launch and picnic area on Alamoosook Lake
  • Boat launch and picnic area on Craig Pond
  • Nature trail with interpretive signs
  • Indoor Visitor Center with watershed, stewardship and historical themed displays
  • Library and Archives (Access by request only)
  • Public restrooms
  • Atlantic Salmon Flyfishing Museum, operated by the Friends of Craig Brook
  • Conference room and meeting facilities
